RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA — King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) is expanding access to emergency care through virtual Emergency Department services and specialist coordination. This approach allows patients to receive early assessments and be directed to the appropriate level of care without necessarily visiting the hospital physically. The emergency programs at KFSH include virtual access, urgent-care clinics, emergency medicine for adults and children, ambulance and transfer services, and collaboration with specialty and intensive care units. The virtual services support early assessment, follow-up, and guidance when immediate in-person visits are not required or when specialist advice is needed.

The virtual emergency care model is supported by integrated clinical platforms and secure digital infrastructure that ensure seamless information flow throughout the patient's care pathway. Specialist coordination is especially important for complex cases requiring timely input from various specialties such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, transplantation, surgery, or critical care. This system complements physical emergency attendance by providing an additional access route, helping to preserve emergency resources for critical cases while maintaining patient safety. Clear escalation processes are in place for cases needing urgent intervention.
