SAN DIEGO, CA — The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) hosted a three-day event at La Jolla Cove, featuring adaptive sports, Paralympian mentorship, and community celebrations to support athletes with physical disabilities. The San Diego Triathlon Challenge, Tour de Cove, and CAF Cycling Club collectively raised over $2.1 million to enhance access to sports through adaptive equipment, coaching, and competition opportunities. Hundreds of participants contributed to the fundraising success, with top fundraisers exceeding $80,000 individually and teams raising over $170,000.
The weekend included the Heroes of Sport Awards, adaptive clinics, and the Jami Marseilles Challenged Athlete Kids Run + Roll, which celebrated young athletes using prosthetics and wheelchairs. Toyota and other sponsors supported the event, helping to remove financial barriers and promote active lifestyles for people with physical disabilities. Bob Babbitt, CAF Co-Founder, highlighted the significance of the event, stating “This weekend is a glimpse of what happens when access meets opportunity”.
