ALEXANDRIA, VA — Bottled water has become the most preferred, consumed, and trusted beverage in the United States, surpassing soda since 2016 with the gap widening each year. A national survey of over 2,000 U.S. adults found that 71% list bottled water among their favorite drinks, ahead of soda and coffee at 58%. Americans prioritize taste, quality, price, and safety when choosing beverages, with bottled water being notably affordable at 2.4 cents per ounce compared to other drinks like soda and energy drinks.
The International Bottled Water Association highlights that nearly half of Americans experience dehydration symptoms weekly, emphasizing the importance of hydration. The association advocates for increased access to water in schools and public places to promote health. IBWA President Matt Herrick said “Americans continue to tell us they want water and see it as the best drink for their health.” to explain the organization's focus on encouraging water consumption. Additionally, a majority support the availability of bottled water alongside other drinks and oppose restrictions on its sale.
