One of the memories that stayed with me most from childhood was the day my grandfather died. I had been sitting alone beside him, not fully understanding how close he was to death. After being told to leave the room, I sat outside on the front steps. Not long afterward, I heard commotion inside and watched as my grandfather was taken away on a gurney. The circumstances surrounding that final moment stayed with me for years and became a memory I never truly forgot.
