And then Scripture adds one of my favorite little statements. "He also made the stars." Today, astronomers and astrophysicists use powerful telescopes to study billions of galaxies. These men and women dedicate their entire careers to exploring the universe.
And yet, Genesis describes the creation of the stars with such simplicity. "He also made the stars." Just think about the billions of galaxies throughout the universe, all part of the extraordinary creation described in Genesis. It’s a trip. And God sees that it is good.
On the fifth day, God fills the oceans with marine life, from the starfish to the blue whale. Above the earth, birds begin to fill the skies. Imagine hearing birds singing for the first time. Or watching an eagle spread its wings. And God blesses them, commanding them to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the seas and skies with life.
I just thought of something. God doesn't simply create living things. He gives them the capacity to continue producing life.
Then comes the sixth day. God creates the animals that live on land. Livestock, wild animals, and creatures that move along the ground, each with its own distinct biological characteristics. Just imagine the variety. Elephants. Lions. Horses. Ants. Worms.
And then there's the rooster. I have to admit, I like roosters. Who needs an alarm clock when you've got a rooster announcing the beginning of your day?
But seriously, when I think about the incredible variety of animals God created, each with its own unique characteristics, I can't help but admire God’s creativity.
