MCLEAN, VA. — Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey showing that the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) has declined to 7.24% as of October 29, 2026. This marks a decrease from the previous week's average of 7.32%. The 15-year FRM also saw a decline, averaging 6.60% compared to 6.68% the week before. These rates remain higher than those recorded a year ago, with the 30-year FRM at 6.17% and the 15-year FRM at 5.41%.
The survey focuses on conventional, conforming, fully amortizing home purchase loans for borrowers with excellent credit who put 20% down. Freddie Mac aims to promote liquidity, stability, and affordability in the housing market. Sam Khater, Freddie Mac's Chief Economist, noted the recent decline in mortgage rates and its impact on buyers. He said “The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage declined again this week, reaching its lowest level this month and modestly boosting purchasing power”
