AL-ULA, SAUDI ARABIA — The Royal Commission for AlUla has launched its 2026–2027 archaeological research season, bringing together Saudi and international experts to explore the ancient history of AlUla and Khaybar. The initiative focuses on prehistoric settlements, ancient kingdoms, oasis communities, pilgrimage routes and historical inscriptions. Researchers will conduct excavations, environmental studies and digital documentation at major archaeological sites, including Hegra and Dadan. The program also includes studying more than 25,000 inscriptions to better understand the region’s cultural heritage and its historical connections to trade, religion and human migration.

“AlUla and Khaybar continue to reveal the depth and diversity of human history in northwest Arabia,” said Dr. Abdulrahman Alsuhaibani, vice president of culture at the Royal Commission for AlUla. The research program also emphasizes preserving historical sites, training Saudi archaeologists and strengthening international academic partnerships. Through fieldwork, community workshops and advanced scientific research, the commission aims to uncover new discoveries while protecting Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage for future generations.
